Well, some of you guys may remember me as AudiOso and my 2005 Goodwood Green S4, my 2003 Brilliant White TT Coupe and my 2003 Atlas Grey A4 Avant. All three were sold earlier this year when I bought my 2008 Chrysler 300C SRT8 and my 2008 Caliber SRT4.
I did minor mods to the Caliber trying to keep it fairly stock since there were only 5056 of the SRT4's made. So far it has a CPE exhaust which is very nicely made and a Realtune ECU remap. The increase in power is quite stunning. The guys at Realtune dynoed this configuration at just shy of 350hp at the crank and 360 ft/lbs of torque.
The 300C SRT8 on the other hand has been a different story. I went all out on this car. I got the car really cheap because it has a carfax. When it was two months old it was hit and took a quarter panel on the passenger's side. Since the car effectively has no future collector's value I decided to build myself the first and probably only truly fast car I will ever own. I worked with Alex Jones at Arrington Engines and Bill Schurr at Paramount Transmissions to spec the following:
10:3 to 1 compression 426 stroker shortblock
CNC ported 6.1 liter heads
Arrington 607 grind billet camshaft
Billet main caps
Fully forged internals
Full Commetic gasket kit
ARP Head Studs
ATI 17% overdrive harmonic balancer
Diamond Racing push rods
Diamond Racing intake and exhaust valves
American Racing Headers 2.75" headers and resonated T-304 exhaust system
For the drivetrain I went with:
Paramount blueprinted and built NAG1 transmission (full AMG clutches and servos as well as valve body assembly)
Paramount lightweight high strength flex plate
Paramount 3400 RPM stall speed torque converter
Quaife helical cut gear driven differential
DSS 1000 hp axles and hubs
To finish things off I went with:
Arrington Magnuson 2.3 liter twin-screw supercharger kit
10 psi setup
Erik Storms who runs BFNY Performance in Plattsburgh, NY currently has the car, and it is in the process of being assembled. Here are some crappy pics of the build process:
That's all I have for now. The car is supposed to be done on the weekend of the 15th. That's when myself and my buddy Erik Haun are going up with his 2006 300C. He's getting my old 6.1 liter mill dropped into his car. This will be a very interesting weekend. Erik Storms works very fast and carefully which is usually not how things happen. He said he can turn Erik's 300C around in two days, so we're going to hang out in Plattsburgh and nearby Vermont and take in the fall color with my newly invigorated SRT8. It'll be interesting to get this thing on the dyno in the spring.
Erik and Alex are confident that I'll be making in the neighborhood of 675 or so hp and 680 ft/lbs of torque at the rear wheels with this car running 10 psi of boost on pump gas. If I want more I can go with a stand alone pulley system and take it up to 12 psi which is the high end of what the blower can put out without overdriving it and running it too hot. Needless to say, I'm going to crap my pants the first time I drive this thing as the fastest car I've ever driven was this thing running 420 hp and 425 ft/lbs of torque.
To say the least, I'm excited. I miss my S4 and the traction of the AWD, the gorgeous interior and just the all-around Teutonic quality of the car, but this car has a nice feel to it and hits a nice meld of luxury and sportiness as a package. Down the road I'm planning on doing some interior upgrades in terms of tastefully done leather covering of some of the hard surfaces on the dash and door panels to truly bring this car up to a nicer standard overall.
