    Default Precision 5857 build

I am currently in the process Building my B5 A4. I am going with a Precision Turbo 5857 DBB, my power goal is 400FWHP+ and 500HP when I build the head. Running an AEB 1.8 motor... Usp Motorsports is going to be supplying the parts, install, and software upgrade , Usp has never let me down!! What a great shop! I'm going to see how long my Southbend STG3 clutch will last, then probably I will get an FX850 or a FX400. The exterior of the car will pretty much be the same minus the Halo Headlight's I have on there now(decided on Black Depo One piece) and the Brakes(S4 brake upgrade) I will be updating this as everything goes along. Thanks for looking!!

    Nice build.

    FX450?

If you go FX850 you will want to go with the Super Single which is what Dan and David both bought from me. The FX850 twin disk just hits way too hard for the 01A transmission, it should only be used when running a 01E transmission.

I will be going with the FX400 when my southbend wears down...I can change it in school for no labor cost just no car for half a day, it would save me some money for the time being..plus the motor needs to be broken in so the southbend will hold for now, plus theres alot of meat still on it.

    I figured you did.

They do actually offer a kit that some people have called the FX450, it has Feramic material on the 6 puck instead of Ceramic and is only offered as a custom order.

gotchya...would you recommend the Feramic or Ceramic for street use and some track use?

Ceramic is perfectly fine for the A4. If you want something with more bite then you could always go with the FX850 Super Single ceramic 6 puck setup like a few other B6/B5 1.8t owners are running. It has a stiffer pedal that gives more feed back for those that like to track the car. You can ask Dan about his FX850SS, he seems to love it. Nice track clutch that is still easy to use on the street.

alright...got the motor going in today, also I was told they need to make a hole in my valve cover and put a breather hose on it bc the AEB's do not have a breather hose on their valve cover which is essential for boosted applications. I also need to get some 034 density line trans mounts bc my new oem trans mounts are already broken from my last setup. I was told next week my car should be up and running =)

hmmmm.... somehow I never noticed this before...... but it definitely needs more ported compressor housing...... looks so much cooler

I'm curious to if it'll surge without one. I've heard of 57trim garretts having that problem. since the PTEs have a different wheel, I wonder if it'll have the same problem. I hope not, that would be annoying.

I like shiny things. . . and I like this build a lot. It's looking good guys, keep it up. I'll be interested in seeing the power it finally puts down, but still personally hesitant about it all being in the front wheels haha

With the non ported housing I will see quicker spool up time, I agree the ported housing looks cool as hell but if usp says I don't need it then I'm willing to trust their decision...yea I know people bash me about being FWD but this is what I got and I do plan on getting a quattro shell and trans then swapping over the motor I have now into the quattro. I'm a college student in the automotive field and I think that would be a cool, pretty straight forward project to accomplish.

The only reason I got the ported housing is because I was afraid of surge. I'm curious to see how much better it spools.

true, I hope it won't surge too bad...but the spool should be a bit better than the ported housing, I don't think by much though...

Nice build! I have a quick question did you route the pcv pipe to your downpipe? I never seen that before. Let me know how it works. Congrats in having you car done, show some pics!

Why don't you just buy a AWM valve cover? It has a port already. That's what I did. I got it on eBay for like $50.

Looks like a clean solid build. I would do away with that motor driven fan and install and electric one. It would make quite a big difference i think

Hmmm. I have to check because I like to bolt down my coilpacks too, plus I bought the coilpacks for AWM that bolt down. Checkout my valve cover as you can see there's 2 holes to bolt down each coilpack, but I have to double check and make sure I won't have any problems. So hows the car riding?

that's for the coil pack's with the hold down clamp not the actual bolt down coil pack that comes with the AEB...this is your coil pack

this is the AEB coil pack

It runs and ran for a few mins...The shop started it up just to see if it would, exhaust is being fab'd up as well as the intercooler piping, then its getting a base file tune...

Incorrect. All of the A4 1.8t valve covers have bolt holes so that any of the coils can be bolted down using the holes in the coil pack body. Doesn't matter if it is a AEB, ATW, AWM or AMB. I have used nearly all of those different valve covers to bolt down my ATW Hitachi coils. Plent of AEB owners have converted to ATW coils and same with the AWM and AMB owners.

The bolt down kit from ECS is just to hold down the push down coils that come stock on the AWM/AMB.

Only cover that I know of that does not have the holes is the flat valve cover off a Euro transverse 1.8 which only uses the push down coils and has the oil cap location in the back when put on a longitude 1.8t.

    This is the shaved/flat VC.

having trouble with the transmission still...got new linkage, bushings, and shifter in there but it feels like it doesn't have the click that it should when you put it into gear, getting the software put on the car so its drivable and easier to diagnose the problem

That is normal if that manifold has any iron in it. You could always have the manifold coated.
