I went down to my allstate agency today with my father. And got a few quotes, comparing the 01 audi a4 1.8t and the 01 audi s4 2.7tt.

Lady tried to tell me this and that and how it works but somehow she managed to give me a quote of $363.28 for 6-Months for the 01 black audi a4 5 speed.
And then i got another quote which really opened my eyes, i looked into a 2001 Audi S4 2.7Twin and she came up with a quote of $351.61 for 6-months on a 2001 black audi s4 manual.

So now my idea is, put the s4 under my fathers name on the insurance and uhh, take it!

Why would the s4 be cheaper than the a4? Thats my question ?

Is that A4 quattro or FWD? AWD lowers insurance premiums I believe.

the s4 has a better traction control system and braking system. its just a little bit safer.

This means more A4's get into collisions than S4's thats a factor.

Also there is the risk of theft issue.. which is most likely to get stolen for parts? Thats another factor on price.

it's on a per car basis, so not likely the sheer volume of A4s

insurance measures 'risk' and charges so that their risk will be covered if spread across thousands of clients + leave a bit extra for profit.

Basic risks for B5 A4 and S4 cars are

a) that they'll burn to the ground
b) that they'll be stolen
c) that they'll be crashed

Basically the A4 is a cheap cheap cheap car, thus they are more likely to be driven by kids...who are WAY more likely to crash. That's the only major discernable difference between the two at this point.

Also, the B5 S4 is still a car that cost $45,000 when it was new, and many of the owners were well heeled and a bit older...thus better drivers, more conservative etc. All in all there is less risk for the S4 (in your area, with your company) so it's just that.

I mean we're talking about $30 a year difference here. Is this even a thread?

i would also think it would depend on your driving record. maybe for a clean record the s4 will be a little cheaper but as soon as you pick up a few points, i bet the insurance on the s4 would skyrocket...

do all the b5s not have an immbolizer? is that just an a4 thing? that could also play a role.

Agree with Saki, but to add "moving violations" have something to do with it too. Say DMV sees 100,000 moving violation tickets issued to A4's, and only 50,000 issued for S4's nationwide, the S4 will be cheaper.

I checked online, and a $120k Porsche was cheaper then my STI with 2 points on my record. People that drive that porsche don't drive much, and they don't get as many tickets as people in an STI. (or crash)
