Default Advice needed please!! Think I'm crazy to trade my C5 S6 Avant for B5 S4??!!

Similar situation here, thinking very seriously about trading the C5 S6 Avant with 100k miles for the B5 S4 with under 11k miles. My goals are as follows:

Need better gas mileage as i commute a lot, Want something with better/more tuning options and more fun to drive, really don't need the space of the avant, want something with lower mileage....

So, am i crazy to give up the S6??!! Even with the LOW mileage of the S4, i think the S6 is worth a bit more so there would possibly be a price difference as well i suppose. I also have a few "mods" on the S6 which help such as:

Bilstein Sports, H&R sports, 18x8.5 RS4 reps with Pirellis

The S4 is pretty much stock other than a chip and headlight housing/bulb upgrade.

What do you guys thing?! Really need some advice on this one and would appreciate some input/advice!!! Thanks a lot in advance!!

11k on on a B5 S4, is that a typo?!?!? That's crazy low miles for a S4! S4's have never been that special before to make it a true garage queen. I'd almost feel bad out of making a commuter out of a S4 with that low of miles.

Price wise I really can't tell ya how much of a difference there should be. What years are each car?

The S4 is an 01 and the S6 is an 02. Actually the S4 has 10,500 miles... NOT a typo. The guys says it sat for a few years in a heated garage without getting driven and it looks pretty pristine from what i can tell.... hard to know of course. Any more thoughts anyone???

Well, the B5 S4 will be a lot more fun. Might not be as reliable. Even though it only has 10,500 miles, I would do Timing Belt, Serp belt, Water Pump, tensioners and pulleys right away.

The K03s should be fine, but again, it depends on how it was taken care of. As long as they were warmed up and cooled down, they should be good to go. But honestly the real joy of the B5 S4 is when it is Stage 3 and above.

If I were buying it and had the spare cash, I would pull the motor right after I got it and go stage 3 immediately, this will allow you to look over everything and make sure everything is good to go. You could also fix any leaks that you find very easily.

If you got anymore questions let me know. I have been through just about everything with this car. Stage 3 on K04s to RS6 turbos to GTs and built motor.

Thanks for the input. That may all be a little more than i have the time or money for immediately, but i will definitely keep it in mind. How much would you expect to spend to go State III? Anyone have any reason to think this trade would be a BAD idea????

i find this very very very difficult to believe. a 10500 mile b5 s4 is worth WAY more than whatever kbb value you can find.

i sold my 02 with 34k miles in 2008 for 22k... kbb was 15-17 at the time. since then, low mile b5's are even harder to come by. despite the rarity of the s6, i highly doubt it's worth more with 100k on the clock than that b5 .

now onto the more productive comments...

gas mileage will be A LOT better in a b5. i got 23-26mpg in my stock b5 consistently for over a year. if i get 18mpg in my current b6 i am lucky.

reliability should not be TOO much of an issue if the car was properly maintained. that being said, i agree with evilevo about the recommended maintenance. if it helps, i got rid of my b5 because i was paranoid about maintenance and picked up my CPO'ed b6 instead. the new owner has had zero troubles with my old car and just crossed the 90k mile mark. in my mind 10.5k mile car > 100k mile car, especially if both cars are the same make.

what color is the car? options? etc.

    pretty crazy trade

I think the B5 is great, but not sure what damage sitting for a few years does to a car. Make no mistake...this thing probably sat for 6-7 years in a stretch.

    what does an S6 weigh?

see im thinking the car wasnt driven for 10500 miles in 2001 and then abandoned. ideally, the guy drove the thing 1300 miles or so per year, maybe ~100 miles a month. that would be perfect in my mind.

"Several years after it was sold new, the B5 S4 remains a potent enthusiast car, and as featured in the December 2007 issue of Sport Compact Car magazine, a Torque Factory tuned S4 won a comparison test against several other extreme performance cars".

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_S4

I am new to this whole euro world. However I got to agree a B5 with that many miles to me would be like finding a miracle. Mine had well over 100k. Like mentioned above the motor got yanked timing belt/ water pump among with several upgrades once I got it.

I am so glad to now become a B5 S4 owner.
