    Default B6/B7-S4/RS4 Exhaust Thread

I decided to start this thread for new comers with questions on which exhaust (cat-back) setup to purchase. This will hopefully prevent numerous threads on the same topic. When you reply please use the following format for easy information gathering. Feel free to post your reviews on the exhaust and reasoning why you purchased said exhaust.

    Brand Make: Fast Intentions
    Resonatation: Non-Resonated
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.5"
    Mid-Section Type: X-Pipe
    Transmission Type: 6-Speed

Should be getting my setup within a few weeks. I will write a short review of it once it is on the car.

If your exhaust is not listed above please let me know and i will add a category for it.

    Here is my current setup

    Catback:
    Brand Make: Milltek
    Resonatation: Non-Resonated
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.25"
    Mid-Section Type: H-Pipe

    Downpipes:
    Brand Make: Milltek
    Pre Cats: Gutted
    Main Cats: N/A
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.5"

Once I get some parts in I'll be transitioning to this setup:

    Catback:
Brand Make: Custom Piping - Milltek Mufflers
    Resonatation: Non-Resonated
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.5"
    Mid-Section Type: VAST designed X-Pipe

    Downpipes:
    Brand Make: Milltek
    Pre Cats: Gutted
    Main Cats: N/A
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.5"
    Other: Electronic Cutouts

Once my exhaust is all setup I'll post a full review on the sound and performance gain (2.5" vs. 2.25").

And great thread Joey, I can't remember how many times I have said "get a 2.5" x-pipe catback..." on AZ.

    Downpipes:

    Exhaust Diameter: 2.175"

The Milltek was on the S4 when I purchased it and the Gutted Dp's Where purchased from Joey.
It sounds good, its a conservative sound in my opinion and you dont get to much drone in the interior only on RPMs below 2500 anything after that the noise in the cabin gets less and less.

How do you like those piggie pipes? Do you feel the faster acceleration without the cats?

The tune will really go nice with the exhaust combo you are running. Keep us posted on the track times.

Thanks for adding the clip! The non-res sounds so much better than the resonated version. I test-drove on with resonators and couldn't tell it had an aftermarket exhaust. Curious to hear it with piggies.

I really wish the Milltek was 2.5". and X-piped.

Of course, then it would basically be FI.

    Brand Make: Fast Intentions
    Resonatation: 8" Resonated
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.5"
    Mid-Section Type: X-Pipe

I love the exhaust, but to me it's still a little quiet. I have a tip, and do mostly city driving, but don't mind the drone at all.

I went resonated because I'm not a huge fan of raspy exhausts.. maybe a bad experience with the angry bees of an old M3. I'm still debating whether to go for headers or downpipes, but if I do go headers I will probably remove the resonators.

Bought the car with the Milltek Non-Res and I don't really have any complaints. It does drone a little bit just under 2K but I started to like the drone after a week or two. Piggie pipes are soon to come. I'm going to wait a few more weeks until it warms up a little bit around here.

Joey- we should add photos of the rear end AND the type of transmission you have; 6spd vs auto will make a different where the RPMs sit

    2004 S6 6spd manual

    ___ with my B6 body ___
    APR cat-back
    Brand Make: APR
    Resonatation: Resonated
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.25"
    Mid-Section Type: X-pipe

This was my first exhaust on the car, the APR really changed the tune of the car; it made it sound more "euro" than "v8". Louder, but still quiet. No drone.

    APR downpipes + APR catback
    Brand Make: APR
    Resonatation: Resonated
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.25"
    Mid-Section Type: X-pipe

Wanting to make the APR cat-back a little louder I added 2.25" downpipes. I noticed an increase of sound; still not obnoxious, but not quiet either. There was a noticeable increase through the powerband.

APR downpipes + Milltek resonated exhaust
    Brand Make: APR, Milltek
    Resonatation: Resonated
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.25"
    Mid-Section Type: H-pipe

Wanting larger tips, I added a Milltek resonated exhaust. Milltek construction is a piece of shit. The welds are meh, and the hardware they supply is garbage. They actually include a tube of exhaust paste. FAIL. That being said, the resonated exhaust + APR DPs sounded sounded nice, but was actually quieter than the full APR setup.

APR downpipes + Milltek non-resonated exhaust
    Brand Make: APR, Milltek
    Resonatation: non resonated
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.25"
    Mid-Section Type: X-pipe

Removing the resonators really woke the car up; hands down, one of the best sounding exhausts EVER.

    ___ with my B7 body ___
JHM longtube headers + GMG midsection + Labree mufflers
    Brand Make: JHM, GMG, LAbree
    Resonatation: Resonated
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.5"
    Mid-Section Type: X-pipe

    OMG WTF.

JHM longtube headers + STaSIS cat-back
    Brand Make: JHM, STaSIS
    Resonatation: non-resonated
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.5"
    Mid-Section Type: X-pipe

    OMG WTF^2

sounds like crazy angry lion sex from 3K on up. Absolutely love it, little drone no rasp and no popping or crackling. just perfect.

    Brand Make: Milltek
    Resonatation: Non-Resonated

Love the sound but a little quiet IMO. For Sale at the moment (pm me if interested).

I just received in the mail, DP's:

    Brand Make: Milltek
    Pre-cats: non

    B7 S4 6MT

    Brand Make: FI
    Resonatation: Non-Resonated
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.5"
    Mid-Section Type: X-Pipe

    As well as downpipes:

    Brand Make: Milltek
    Pre-cats: none
    Main-Cats: none
    Diameter: 2.5"

Sounds absolutely amazing. Every car guy that hears it compliments me on it. But yea, its pretty loud when your pushing it. Not bad at idle, but under any load you hear it. It is loud in the cabin under load from 1500rpm to 2500rpm.

its not that loud relatively speaking. as long as you dont rev the hell out of it in the neighborhood you shouldnt have any issues. mine doesnt start coming to life until about 3200 and really starts to scream at 4500.

edit: just now saw that you got an un res. now im anxious to hear what you think as well lol

I had my connection points redone with flanges instead of slip-in style. As for sound i love it not too quite not too loud, no drone on highway.

It seems like the Corsa system isn't very popular. Are there any known issues or are the other systems just superior?

    Catback:
    Brand Make: Corsa
    Resonatation: Non-resonated
    Exhaust Diameter: 2.5"
    Mid-Section Type: X-Pipe

    Downpipes:
    Piggy Pipes:
    Gutted pre-cat

I'm very satisfied with the Corsa. Great sound, great quality. The exhaust tips could look a bit better, but I'm just being picky.

I bought the system used for $1200 and couldn't be happier. I needed something that wasn't too loud because of the area I live in and where I work. Most people don't even notice it unless I wind it up past 3k and then it definitely draws attention. The sound is deep and even a slight throttle blip sets off car alarms in parking garages. Under normal driving conditions, 25% throttle or less and it's very quiet. WOT its loud as hell! The perfect setup for my daily driver.

My only complaint would be how far the tips stick out past the bumper. Part of that is probably how it was installed though. I'm going to have them changed out to something a little shorter.

    Ordered today:

    Exhaust Diameter: 2.5"
    Mid-Section Type: X-Pipe

    As well as downpipes:

    Brand Make: Milltek
    Pre-cats: none
    Main-Cats: none
    Diameter: 2.5"

Can't wait! I'll update this with feedback once its all installed. I'm a little bit scared about how loud it will be, but I wanted to try the fastest setup and then add restrictions if I have to until its a level the neighbors won't hate me for.
You're going to get great performance from that setup but it will be loud as hell!

Usually not too loud, but around 2100 RPMs it gets louder when I let off the gas. Also at low RPMs it's louder. At cruising speeds it's pretty quiet.

I have messed with my exhaust set-up many many times and this is the best setup i have came up with. No drone and not very loud in cabin, but it screams when on it.
    I will be switching to a b7 fast intentions b7 x pipe 8" res catback and 2.5 downpipes(custom)
