Default DPs (2.5) and Catback (FI): Success

Got trex's DPs and the FI catback on this weekend, overall not too bad. I was able to do the whole job with just one set of jack stands on the front, never moved them. It was made much easier by the fact that someone had clearly done a DP job previously. There was NO AXEL SHIELD on the driver side, and no top bolt on the passenger side shield. The mid brackets on both DPs were also disconnected. Other than that revelation, the job went fairly smoothly. I'm still having a little bit of trouble evening out the tips, but its very close.

Anyone have a spare shield to sell me? Or should I just call the dealer..

I'll try to post a quick vid with sound, as I don't think everyone's heard this exact setup.

Nice to see that you got it done with only the two stands. Nice garage! Looks like you had a nice bit of room to get the job done.

I should have a spare axle shield laying around at home i can sell.

getting those DPs in/out with just jackstands is a bitch but with enough patience you'll find just the right angle

I'm gonna have to get an FI catback one of these days (custom 2.5" right now)

That stock non-stainless exaust looks nasty, your picture reminded me of that.

When I first got my S4 and looked underneath, that was a major dissappointment to me not seeing stainless pipes.

I'm on the lookout for a used set of aftermarket stainless....

Would be nice to see underneath pics of the new exhaust too!

just ordered by FI catback last Monday, but Dan had to go to SEMA last week, still told me I would get it before the end of November, I can't wait though. Sent my ECU in to JHM today and should get that back this Friday. Im jealous though because I just gutted my pre-cats in my stock downpipes, would like to get trex turks, but I don't want to change them out every year for inspection.

Yeah I went resonated, I'd like to minimize drone as much as possible. I actually don't mind the stock sound, the upgrade it purely a performance desire for me. I sent my ECU for a tune last night, but when I get it back I'll post something. What do you want to hear? Revs? A pull? A drive by?

edit: Oh I did take a quick vid of a start and short revs. Its not great, I'll have to repost when I have a chance.

With the tune you might not have to, since the tune gets rid of O2 codes. In PA it depends on the county, but in mine they only do an OBD-II scan (not visual and no sniffer). I also got my tags last week, so I'm good for a year at least anyway!

I'm gonna be rolling with the exact same setup once I get back stateside. If you want to do a few drivebys that would be awesome!

The stock exhaust is stainless!! All stainless systems will look like that over time.

According to this site, they just do a scan and a gas cap check. I suppose its possible they also do a visual as standard, but I don't find that stated anywhere. PA DEP I/M - Emission Test Results

Like I said, I got my tags a few days before doing my install so I won't have to worry about it for a year.

The hardest part about installing trex's pipes for me was that my catback was necked down.

The 2nd hardest part was simply lining up the transmission support brackets. Had to bend and twist the brackets on the new pipes to get them to work. Got it sorted eventually. Then had to weld in resonators because Corsa is stupid loud.

Mine still aren't lined up actually, and I dont have the hardware because they weren't connected to my stock pipes. When I get the axle shield I'll fiddle with them a bit again and try to bolt them down with something from good old Home Depot.

No go on the axle shield. I have a pair from a TIP but they are not the same.

Took this the other day for those who wanted to hear the Trex DPs + FI catback (resonated). I don't have a good way to record the sound from inside, but it is a truly pleasurable auditory experience. I especially like the few second after coming off some acceleration, it just purrs

Anyone got any tips on loosening the rear o2 sensors. I have made several attempts with various power bars and lots of penetration oils and the things will just not budge. All attempts have been made in my garage. The next step would be to get on ramps and heat the darn things up.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have had my fair share of instances where the O2's are locked up. First thing is to definitely let them soak in PB Blaster. What are you using to loosen them?

I recommend a 7/8 box wrench to grip the o2 as best as you can. The last thing you want to do is strip it. If you can fit a nice sized pipe under there then try that for some leverage.

I usually go this route if a couple of swift kicks with my boot can't break it loose. Last resort would be to heat them up with a torch in order to try and get them to break loose.

If all else fails, you can remove the downpipe and work on it outside of the car.

I second this - I have a 3' iron pipe which tightly slides over the end of my breaker bar handle. Most effective $2.99 tool I have for getting off tough bolts! To get an angle on the O2s with this setup you will probably need to get the car up on jackstands/ramps, I know I certainly did.

This for sure. You need room to get that bar in there
