    Default Power Steering Pump Whine

I have a very noticeable whine at idle which seems to go away at higher RPMs (or maybe it just gets drowned out). I dropped my car off at a local shop to get the oil changed this weekend and asked them to listen while it was up on the lift. They tell me its the Power Steering Pump failing, which seems to make sense because I certainly get more hum when turning and you can feel vibration in the steering column.

Does anyone have experience replacing this? I didn't see a DIY. I was also thinking of doing my motor mounts at the same time, I foresee sore arms

I don't think this is hurting anything, but I'll need to do it within the next month because I move to Texas in March.

I don't think i have seen a DIY out there. Might be a little tight as i know it is as the back of the motor on the driver side.

Not sure if you are keen to putting a used pump in but i have a used one with 41K miles on it i will let go for cheap.

I noticed a whine from my pump once but I was just low on fluid, once topped up all was well.

FWIW, here's a photo of the pump. You can gain access to it by removing the driver side motor mount. See the motor mount DIY for more info.
