    Default Acceptable ranges for MAF on B6 S4

    Hey guys, I've searched around on the net and I can't seem to find any info. I'm suspecting a MAF issue, I've cleaned it but still not satisfied, what are the acceptable ranges for the MAF so I can check them with my volt meter.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

    I'd be surprised if you'd be able to accurately measure the MAF voltage/resistance well enough to determine if there's something wrong.

    MAF curves usually contain MANY points to form a very smooth curve. You'd have to measure so many different voltage readings. Not sure how that works with a drive-by-wire car.

    How would you vary the voltage. Maybe there's something in VagCom for this?

    Have you looked up other MAF test procedures?

    Thanks for the response, I've searched for hours on anything I could find about how to test the MAF to make sure it's working 100%. I removed and cleaned it, which seems to make a nice difference. I just want to make 100% sure before I spend the money on a new one if needed. You're right though, I have a few friends with VAGCOM. I'll have them check it out since we're on a long weekend here so I have a few days off to mess around.

    The thing about MAF sensors is that the heated wire is extremely sensitive to changes in airflow (as you'd imagine). As airflow increases it cools the heated wire. The sensor will add voltage to maintain the wire's temperature.

    The only way to test a MAF sensor properly is by measuring the voltage applied to the heated wire with respect to air flow. This would require a flow bench of sorts to accurately control AND measure air flow. Good driveability requires a smooth MAF curve with no dead spots...it also needs to be where the engineers intented it to be...or else the car will be over/underfueled.

    Do you have a friend that's local that would be willing to swap MAFs with you for an afternoon?

    I'm sure I could meet up with a few guys at a meet in the coming weeks, nobody I know that's completely local. All the B6/b7 guys I know are out of town. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and drive up to Toronto area meet up with a few guys I know with VAGCOM or as you said do a MAF switch. Cheers for your help.
