    Default 1.8l + PTE5857 = 425awhp?

So there I was, running a GT71R with terrible IAT issues. So what did I do? Pull my engine and do a PTE 5857 build. It was the only logical choice that I had.

I'm bored at work, so I figured that I would start my build thread.

I have some really crappy pics that I took with my crappy cell phone (I know, double fail) and so I only have terrible pics to show you as of now. I'll take better ones later.

As far as the build goes, I want to keep it pretty basic.

    -Engine
    - IE rods w/ stock pistons new rings and rod bearings
    - A refreshing hone for the block
    - Port and polish AMB head
    - AEB intake mani
    - Exhaust valves
    - Supertech valve springs w/ titanium retainers
    - Stock cams (as of right now)

    -Tuning/Fueling
    - Probably Unitronic or Maestro... I want to run 1000cc injectors, so whoever can give me tuning for it
    - 005 intank pump
    - stock fuel lines w/ "returnless" system

    -Cooling
    - Treadstone TR10 w/ custom 2.5" piping
    - Possibly W/M

    -Turbo Stuff
    - PTE HP5857SP (running like, 1 million PSI)
    - Hoping the Treadstone manifold will fit, otherwise idk
    - Tial wastegate
    - Hallman MBC

    -Exhaust
    - Custom 3" downpipe w/ wastegate routed into it
    - downpipe -> 24" cherry bomb 3" in/out to 2.5" Y to 2.5" out the back

I'm sure that I'm forgetting something....

    OH YEAH!!!

    -Clutch
    - Something big and ugly from CM. I'll need to talk to Greg@DTH. I was thinking something like the FX850

Thanks to Clay@CTS for the Turbo and Clint@RAI for the awesome deal on the bottom end parts!

whoops, also forgot the add the pics.

Every thing looks great good luck with the build. Just one question.. Why dont you pick up an AEB head? They can be had for 300 naked and you just have to swap over the parts. Im sure it will be cheaper and easier that way

I second the idea of a AEB head. In any case this is going to be an awesome/fun build can't wait to see how it turns out! Oh and nice tags btw LOL.

i was going to do an AEB head, but everyone does that. and i can port and polish it myself, so there wouldnt be any extra cost as far as that goes.

im more interested in what the 1.8l with stock cams can do. i think it would be good info seeing as how everyone always does 2.0/AEB/Cams.

The CM 240mm FX400 6 puck would be plenty, it will hold around 700 ft lbs of tq and uses a clutch that the S4 2.7t stage 3 guys run.

$600 difference between the 240mm FX400 package and the FX850.

The stock cams are going to be the biggest factor on how much power you end up making.

Thats really good info about the clutches, thanks! that helps a lot with my decision.

yeah, cams are easy to swap out tho, im just curious what it'll make with the stockers

If you have the time then seeing how much you can make with the stockers before going to a larger cam is a good idea. Then you can also do the same with the small port head vs a AEB head.

Everyone does it cause it the best bang for your buck. Honestly if you cant flow test it after your done dont to it. Why allow for a chamber to flow less air then the others? Or even worse they all flow way different numbers. the AEB head is a strong starting piont as well as something that needs no work after (ex: port and polish). not only will you then have a huge paper weight but you would have to go buy a AEB after, aleast with the stock head you can resale it and make up some money.

cams are to much of a gamble with 1.8t. i heard really bad stories from both shops and private builds.

your best bet is a stripped AEB head and do larger valves and Heavy duty springs, Youll have great flow through the head and it will allow you rev a bit more, increasing your power band.

I understand your point entirely, trust me, I really do. I am doing exhaust valves and heavy duty springs w/ titanium retainers, so it should be good for a soild 8k rpm. I was basically going to port match the AEB mani that I have so that it is as fluid of a transition as possible.

Your going to love the valves and and springs. I had them installed in my R32. (know its completely different) while normal a turbo R spools at 3400 and make full boost at 4200, i spool at 2200 and make full boost just before 3000. People dont understand how that possible, but with the right parts and my boost controller i have no lag and pull to 8k like a freight train.

What turbo? I'm so jealous. We're doing an A3 3.2 with a 35R at the shop right now, thing is gonna be awesome

gt35r 1.06 a/r, im really upset with my gt35 to be honest their are a shit load of new turbos out that the are not only cheaper then the 35r but spool quicker and hit harder.

ANd have cheaper Center housings so when you blow the seals like i did on mine after the warrenty is up your not shelling out 500+ for a new center housing. more like 250-400.

Funny that you say this, I have been looking around at turbos lately. To be honest, the 35R is an awesome turbo though. I think the 1.06A/R is whats making you mad about the lag and stuff. I DO agree with the rebuild cost though, that can DEFINITELY get old.

I would check out the HTA, I did it on mine and its faster for sure.

Clint when are you not looking at new turbos? lol

The 1.06 is going to a bit more laggy but he is most likely running that big of an A/R because its on a VR6. I am still waiting to switch to a HTA3586r but cant really complain seeing that I even my damaged exhaust wheel GT35r made 570whp on 110 octane only pushing 32psi and ran 10.55. My good GT35r made a little more then that pushing 37psi but it did hit a little sooner.

How is it possible for a 3.2 liter with a GT35r spool at 3400 and make full bost at 4200? Even I do that on just 2.0 liters with a .82 a/r GT35r. They should all be spooling before 3k rpms since a GT35r is a pretty small turbo for 3.2 liters of displacement.

I should have a chart posted by next week it will be retuned on the dyno, once Garrett decides to send me my Center housing. A two day turn around has turned into a week and a half.

That clutch is looking pretty good on that engine. I might have another A4 owner that is lookign to run that clutch too on his built 2 litter with a GT3076r.

Just leave the camera with the car, you will need to take more pics anyway.

Good to hear and I feel exactly the same way. The 850 pretty much has the perfect "performance" pedal feel, not soft but yet not too stiff. One of the big reasons I kept bugging CM to make a single disk 850 setup.

Is there a bottom valance for that bumper that will give you more room for the FMIC?

do you mean like a USP lower half?

after I get this running 100% and retuned, I'm going to start looking at some different from bumpers. I would like something that is OEM like a USP or S4 bumper. I want it to look as OEM as possible. I'm not big on aftermarket bumpers.
