Default Friend Wants to Mod His A4 3.0

My buddy wants to start modding his Audi B6 A4 3.0 Quattro, but hasnt dont any previous modding

He wants to do the following, but will be down under till june for college.

    - Exhaust (not sure what brand but he likes Milltek and Borla)
    - Suspension (coils, but wants to find a good deal)
    - RS4 rear sway bar (most likely getting done no matter what)
    - JHM Short Shifter.

Since i know nothing about Audis, and hes not a addicted to forums like i am. Im in need of help. But he wants to know what he should do first since his car will be sitting for the next 5 months but wants to get started on the modding. And he wants whatll give him the most fun in the last few weeks he's home.

I'd say the exhaust would probably liven the car up a bit, he could get a B6 S4 Milltek catback from an S4 owner who wants to ditch it for something 2.5". Then maybe some piggie downpipes (remove cats from stock downpipes).

The JHM SS is a great piece, I love mine.

If you don't get any better responses, contact B6JoeS4.. he used to have a 3.0.

I used to have a 3.0. Consensus was that there really aren't any power adders without going FI. Despite this, I think the list you have up there looks pretty solid. Coilovers, a short shifter, sway bar, exhaust/ DPs, are all a solid way to lively the car up.

As for coilovers, he really has to choose what best suits him. Everyone will come in here and say what they on their car and how it's perfect so it's really up to him lol. For a sway bar, definitely recommenced the OEM RS4 rear sway.

Exhaust wise, I just had magnaflow 14851 mufflers on my old car and they sounded good but obviously didn't add any power. Joe had a full custom exhaust with quad tips which sounded and looked awesome. A S4 catback is not a bad option, as is a thermal made for the 3.0.

Shortshifter wise, can't go wrong with the JHM trio. Everyone seems to be content with it.

I had a 3.0L B6 A4 prior to getting my S4. The best way to mod it is to sell it and get a S4.

JHM Short Shifter Trio, Stern street density motor mounts, Apikol snub mount, 034 transmission mount, Apikol differential mount
Gunmetal Forgestar F14's wrapped in PS2s / Stock BBS wheels with Wintersport 3Ds, Black Optics RS4 Grill, Blackout Window Trim, LED DRLs, LED Tail lights, HID Fogs, Escort 9500xi hardwired

I had a 3.0 too. If he wants any more power he has to get the pes blower (!). I had it and it was the only thing that really changed the character of the car. The rs4 rear sway is good, an h&r front sway was nice too. But I feel like the stock sport susp. was just barely stiff enough to support them.

But seriously. That car will steal his money and not give him a real gain back.

Duncan is right, the s4 just innately has so much more to offer. Once I bought the s4, the v8's low end made me forget all about the v6.

Best advice I can give is dont spend much if you are set on an S4 in the future. Maybe add the short shifter and exhaust on top of your sways. Enjoy the car for a while and every time you have the urge to spend more on modding it, put that in a separate account for the next car, you'll be much happier and the next car will come quicker if you do this.

Agreed. Don't put that much money into it, especially if you are going to pick up an S4 down the road. Enjoy it for what it is.

seems like B6 S4's can be found at nearly the same price-point as their A4 counterpart, all just depends on what kind of mileage/condition you're looking for. Buying the car, however is the first step, once you're an owner you get the lovely joy of replacing endless shit that goes bad/breaks, then there's the cost of gas and oil if you DD and put on a lot of miles

Not sure how (if) the the eibachs and fsd's would translate if he later moved to an s4. Ask him if he wants an h&r front sway. Makes more difference than the rear sway... and I have one for sale...

How serious does he want to get with the mods, any budget? Theres a decent amount of stuff you can do to the 3.0 for a few grand if your wrenching yourself.
