Default Looking to pick up a B6 A4- Opinions please

Looking to upgrade my daily driver and get into a B6 A4. Nothing special, just something to get me back and forth. Want some good gas mileage and to be comfortable.

Not looking to spend a whole lot of cash. Honestly i am looking for something in the 100k mile range.
    • Must be Manual Transmission
    • Prefer Clean Carfax
    • No Exterior Damage
    • 3 Spoke Steering Wheel
    • Color not important

Want to pick up something close to home. Thoughts and opinions? Should i consider anything else? Anyone know of something out there? Cash in hand ready to buy.

Thanks brotha. Will keep that in mind. Wish one of the Audi dealers around here had one as it would make it a little easier to go see and negotiate.

Don't make the wheel a high priority I got one floating around if you need. You need to make the decision 1.8 or 3.0?

Doesn't really matter. Either or works for me. I would consider and avant also.

I'd recommend 1.8, personally. Better mileage, easier to work on (although coming from a 4.2..).

Wonder if there are some reasonably priced early B7 A4's out there.

Never drove a b6, but i can say the FSI 2.0T we have goes for EVER on a tank of gas!

This is exactly where I'm at. I'm looking to get a good DD that I can rack up the miles on.

Before I was looking at just sedans, mostly 3.0's but now my focus has moved to Avant's. Wanting a big wagon to drive the dalmatians has kinda changed my preference. I'm looking at buying AudiOso's avant up in OH, but it does have a lot of miles for the stock turbo. What kind of lifespan can you really expect from the stock K03 especially adding the fact that it's tuned?

Problem with that is the maintenance history. Unless it was maintained exclusively by the dealer than all records will be available.

I've had a few friends buy used B6s lately and then turn around and get rid of them within a few months because the previous owners never kept up on the maintenance and the cars started shitting things left and right.

A common theme amongst higher mileage A4s from previous owners that just 'drove them'. Aka: your typical owner.

Now, if you don't mind chasing every little thing then disregard this post.

I owned a 3.0 before the S4. the worst part about it is the timing belt that needs to be dont at 70k. It is diy-able but it's also a lot mreo complex than the 1.8. fuel economy is always below 20mpg. pretty much the same as the s4. for me at least.

If i was buying another A4, I would look for a 2004-05 with the 6 speed and the 1.8t.

more annoying then having to do an engine pull because the chain tensioners/adjusters went bad at just over 100K miles?

never said it was. But out of the two A4 motors, the 3.0 sucks from the TB perspective.

Also, the 3.0 likes to go through cats. It uses one big one at the top of each downpipe like the precat on an s4. I had mine from 53k-77k and I had 2 of them fail.

1 more thing.....Oil change on a 3.0 is 7 quarts......oil change on a 1.8t is 5 quarts. Just nice to only have to buy one jug of your preferred expensive oil

Get the 1.8 with a 6 speed, cheap to keep and gas mileage is stellar. Its about time you upgraded from that car that fell off a truck in mexico 10 years ago...

At least you have DG now. Wish I could have found another DG A4. Although I definitely enjoy the 1.8, 6 speed, USP much more than my old TIP 3.0.

Did you fab that rear bumper custom? I love the look of the B7 rear valence and would love to mate it to my B6 rear bumper. Let me know how you did that!

My only other option is a S4 rear but I can't decide if it belongs on an a4!
