Default Narrowed my search to two B6 A4's

Keep in mind that this is a daily driver car for me. I will not be modding it or showing the car at any events. Basically just a step up from the civic and a chance to provide some more DIY work for the community.

Here is what I am looking at

    1. 2002 Audi B6 A4

    95K Miles
    5 Speed Manual Trans
    Silver on Beige Interior

    Highlights
    • Clean Interior and Exterior
    • 95K miles
    • Recent Timing Belt / Service
    • No rash on wheels
    • Options: Bose System, Heated Front and Rear Seats, Trunk Spoiler

    Cons
    • 4 Owners
    • 5-Speed Manual Trans
    • Non-Xenon

    2. 2004 Audi B6 A4

    128K Miles
    6 Speed Manual Trans
    Red on Black Interior

    Highlights
    • 2004 with more options (Xenons, Power Driver Seat)
    • 2 Owners
    • Better color combination
    • 6 Speed Transmission vs 5speed

    Cons
    • No maintenance records (no timing belt recently done)
    • Needs new battery before i bring it home
    • Few blemishes on exterior / rash on wheels
    • Higher miles
    • No Bose

I can get both of the cars at the same price. Each of them has their pros and cons when put side by side together. As i said im not looking for a show car, but i would like it to be as nice as possible for the price. I wanted to get your opinions on which car you think would be for the better taking into account all of the information given above. Both cars have clean titles and no accident records.

Any insight or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks for the help.

6spd for the better gas mileage, any exterior blemishes and stuff are pretty minor concerns for a daily imho... shit is gonna happen when you drive it all the time, hell I smashed a fox at 90mph last night and cracked the fuck out of my front bumper.

I'd just make sure the compression is good and everything else seems to be working alright.

Is the coolant in the tank green or just very low? Or is it just the picture?

Good eye. It is green, not using G12. I would be flushing that out as soon as i got home with it.

.....looking at the red one: Was it normal to have a Power Drivers seat, but not on Pass side?

Also, what kind of final price would you be getting these for? I've been seeing them go for a good bit less with those miles, or at least I've seen lower mileage ones going for those prices.

I'm also on my B6 quest for an avant here's a few I'm looking at:
    http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

    http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

    http://bham.craigslist.org/ctd/2170949445.html

and am also looking at buying AudiOso's Avant which is a 1.8 Tip, with just over 150K miles and some mods

Yeah, not many were optioned with passenger side power seats. It is normal.

I can get either for $7k out the door. The ones you are seeing, like the ones you listed, are automatics. The MT cars carry a higher value.

hmmm, did not know that. Kinda like how the Recaro's only have the slide-out knee support on the drivers side.

Okay, that's about what I'm seeing the sedans go for around those miles. Altho Avant's are a different story, they tend to carry a little more of a premium. I haven't really seen real price different for MT vs. Tip. On Avant's I have a little, but on sedans it's usually right about the same. Another thing I've noticed is that it seems MT cars have more miles on average. When I've searched for cars in the past usually TIP drivers put on more miles.....hence why they bought an auto, now though, I'm seeing 5 and 6MT cars having many more miles on them already

I'd go with the red one. Yes, higher mileage, but I think you'd be happier with the 6 speed. And that's an awesome color combo.

No, just a daily driver. Prolly just a set of summer wheels for it and little cosmetic things here and there. RNS-E and BT will be the extent of interior modding.

hey its a DD! but yeah. 18T. Hundreds of HP are hundreds of dollars away and great deals are...not hard to find. but hey, maybe you can't afford to tinker endlessly with one of the most easily modded cars of the modern gen of audis

Agreed. Black trumps Platinum which trumps Beige.

The only thing I would want different in my A4 is that the interior is black and not platinum. Well, I have part of that (black seats now with everything else platinum).

Just for the interior color, I would get the red car. My A4 came with platinum interior and I spend 2500 in parts to convert the entire interior to black!! yeah, its that ugly. It gets dirty fast too. I had a hard time keeping it spotless and I'm a part-time private detailer.

The 6 speed is also very nice to have. everyone in the A4 forums on the zine bitch about their 5 speeds. The timing belt not being done is not an issue considering it is still running. The belt either works or it doesnt. Just make it a big priority to get it done asap.

The red is nice too! very rare

...only reason everybody buys them. We're all Audi whores

and while I prefer the Red '04, I learned my lesson about driving a bright red Audi. It can scream for attention like Nogaro sometimes, Cops loved that shit. The most times I've ever been pulled over was in that car. I haven't had any trouble with my other cars.

I'd get the 04. Just do some preventative maintenance and you're set. (coolant flush/ TB service, replace j-plug, check the mounts, possible trans flush, compression test, plugs/ filters).

That's the reason I did not go with red. I wanted it so bad but it stands out way too much. DG is invisible on the highway

    Beige interior 7k for 02 w/almost 100k is a bit too much
04 one = no service records kind of scary... not too bad of a shape, however, I've seen 02s in a better shape than this 04.
I say neither! Search more, the right one will come around

My vote is the 2004. 100K is nothing (I bought mine with 102k) but it would be nice to have some type of service record. That fact could work in your favor, just take the price down by $500 for the cost of a kit and your time.

What else are you looking at?
