Default What does this hose do?

Car has "hiccups" here and there and I could feel it running a little funny and now I think I found the problem... what system/job does this hose have?

Dude, I just changed that hose yesterday. It connects to the secondary air pump which runs when you first start the car in the morning to pump more oxygen into the Cat's to warm them up more quickly.

I bought a new one on ECSTuning, http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/058133785/ES277667/

Mine was hard as a rock from all of the intense heat cycles it's seen over the past 7 years (mine is an 04 A4 1.8TQ). The new one is soft like a rubber hose should be.

FWIW mine broke in the exact same location. I used a 90deg pick and a sharp blade to split the hose down the metal then peeled it away from the hose. Be sure to cover the hard metal hose so you don't drop any rubber chunks in it.

Thanks guys! Type Audi... did you notice any issues that lead you to discover the hose was bad or just found it?

Yeah it just sounded a lot louder, mainly a high pressure air leak type of sound. That secondary air pump is seriously powerful. Other than that I didn't notice any bad running conditions.
