    Default PSI Concepts BT Avant?

So recently (the other day) I changed up the TURBO SETUP on my Avant
I know i posted i wanted to sell her off, was/have been frustrated with the Avant for some time. But i had a deal presented to me so i went for the deal/option and well now i need to do some testing for PSi CONCEPTS.

So here is what i went with:

    PSi Concepts CONCEPT Series TD05H-20G
PSi Concepts T-25 Flanged Manifold (already had)
PSi Concepts T-25 Flanged Down Pipe (already had)
Psi Concepts Oil/Coolant line kit (aready had)
Tial 38mm waste gate (already had)
NEUSPEED Extreme TIP (already had when i went REVO2)
    Race Tech FMIC (already had)
Forge Splitter DV (needs to go i want Forge 007) hint!
Forge MBC (set at 20psi for now)
REVO 550 cc BT File w/ 630cc injectors
    Some motor work (already done)

    Some pics of turbo:

    So now for the install:

We removed the old setup. GT28rs (for sale) hint

In order to ge the 28rs out we took off we had to remove/loosen the motor mount and bracket. THen we pushed the motor up a little allowing for more room.
With everything out of the way it was easier to get to the turbo studs. We were gonna remove the Manifold as well but actually managed to ge the turbo out with out removing that.

    Ok so for install pics:

with everthing out of the way and the new turbo being a V-Band setup we were able to get the hot side in after welding the Waste Gate shut.
Jeff@PSi wanted me to run same setup i had on the 28rs. Thats why the waste gate is welded shut.

hot side, nice and tight with some locking nuts

Now to test fit the Cold side. We had to make sure the turbo was clocked right and that it matches up to the intercooler pipes ( i wasnt changing a thing)

NOTE: how the Oil line is sitting.......needs to be changed. Didnt have all the parts that came with the PSi Oil/Coolant line kit. (at another shop).

So now that everthing was lining up we had to bolt all the rest of the stuff removed back on.
This turbo utilizes a smaller inlet than your standard GT28rs, by that you are able to use your NEUSPEED,APR, 034 TIP's. No need for a custom TIP.
    * But * Jeff@PSi does stress that this turbo run with a 3"MAF

And yesss a 3"MAF does fit in a in a NEUSPEED TIP!

    - I need to do some more logging and adjust my Revo settings.
    Stay tuned for more info!
Hopefully this can work out to be an afforable BT for everyone!

More details to come as i test the new setup!

alot happier now. Tommy and i did some wrenching just before and got her running good. Jus need a bad evap leak fixed.

But with out the MAF plugged in the car pulls so fucking hard, and fast. Need to get with REVO about a MAF less file.

    update:

I hod thought i broke my Neuspeed DP, but i just blew the gasket completely out. But had ordered up some piping (plans of single 3" exhaust), we made a dp from the PSi DP/TP. Now its 3'' from turbo back to the center resonators.

Little raspy with no load put on the car. But on the hwy is so nice and quite inside the cabin. Best way to desribe the sound.....little deeper and more refined.

Interesting to see the Mitsu turbos making their way over to the European crowd... I really think their performance, reliability, and durability can not be beat for the price you pay for em' (idk the extra charge for a VW specific turbine housing though). How is the compressor surge/boost creep with that turbine housing? I know in the DSM bolt on housing (7cm^2) that they can surge a bit in the high gear/low rpm setting.

I'd be very interested to see how this Avant moves though. It must really get up and go.

For a smaller turbo it packs quite a punch!
I experience no surge that i know of.

Had trouble getting the 28psi i was told the turbo can make with the Revo3 tune. So i scrapped the N249 and added a larger waste gate spring to the Tial. Now i hit 30psi at 4k and can run about 28-29psi till 7k. She gets up and goes!. But right now the stg3 SB cant hold the power so i have to upgrade.
Price is great! Fits like a glove. If i didnt have the 38mm waste gate no one would know it was BT by looking into the engine bay.
Its not the fastest car out there or do i wan that but its a hwy monster. Sometimes there isnt enough room to let her fly. I should be around 330-350whp ish.......i hope!

That sounds most excellent, and right on par with what the 4G63T guys are doing on a 20G. Some of them are pushing upwards of 400awhp, but they're on a 2.0, cammed, and running a serious tune.

I've always been interested in the 20G due to its stock frame, OEM reliability, the fact that it hauls ass, and is dirt cheap lol. I've always heard reviews about how its one of the best street turbos out there, a little laggier than an Evo III 16G but you get a little more power.

Do you have the ability to log airflow numbers? If you do, and your air metering is dialed... you should see about 40 lbs/min from it. Are you all wheel or front wheel drive?

    AWD!
It is a little laggy but nothing as bad as it was with the N249, and 12lb waste gate spring.
this turbo flows 660 cfm's 3071 flows 680cfm's something like that.

Yeah been talking with Jeff@PSi Concepts and he said the turbo can make over 400wph with the 2.0's and larger motors.

Guy in Australia has similar turbo but Jeff hooked him up with the td06 inlet and impeller to go in the 20g. Been waiting to see results.

I def need a custom tune to ge the most out of my setup.

    550cc Revo3 file ----but running 630cc injectors & 3"maf.

    whats the 4G63T guys?

4G63T is the engine code for whats in a DSM (Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, Eagle Talon Tsi) as well as the Evo XIII and IV's. You can do magical things with them lol.

A TD06 wheel would be beast on this thing, its also monsterous lol

neil, i decided if i go through with this setup ill be running the t3 manifold with the pte 5857 turbo on a 2.0l motor with an intake cam. should be able to make some nice power.

do you have all your emission stuff still? i have inspection in january and im not sure if ill be able to pass since ill most likely be deleting everything. ill have maestro to force readiness on these items but im not sure if that will be successful.

thats a nice setup, should make great power. Yes i have all emissions except CAT. But the software negates the O2 sensor. If worried i'd wait till after you inspect the car.
I'm having trouble getting mine inspected right now. On a temp 10day! I have a evap leak somewhere that keeps popping up. NY cracked down on the "readyness" of faults. So i cant pass yet. Fucking sux!

What codes are you pulling up?
Yea ill probably just end up figuring out a way to make everything work get it inspected then delete everything. I don't really wanna risk but ill already be going catless so i guess that's probably the worst one. Do you have your downside wrapped? I might just wrap it up so they can't tell on the visual

Sorry about that, I get a little over zealous when talking about the import stuff. If you don't mind me asking, how much does the modified 20G cost? You can PM it over to me if you want.

An A4 Ultrasport is always in the back of my mind and this sounds like an excellent solution for the inevitable turbo swap I would be doing.
