    Default Help me troubleshoot dad's B6 1.8t

Ok so all of a sudden dad's car just would not hold idle.
had a random misfire code, and a misfire code for each of 4 cylinders as well as a lean condition code.
While doing a tune up on the car (plugs, air cabin fuel filters, oil) i replaced a broken check valve which took care of the vac leak. i thought thats why the car wouldnt hold idle, i was wrong.

so, here's what i have so far
-the car gets fuel, the plugs are covered in gas.

-car doesnt hold idle at all. have to keep revs over 2k. while doing so theres a loud pop from the back of the motor every 4 or 5 secs. like a backfire (knock sensors have anything to do here)

-since replacing the check valve i'm half a can of starter fluid into searching for other vac leaks and theres nothing.

-oil looks and smells fine on cap and dipstick

-coolant take/cooling sys was pressurized. after 3 or 4 days sitting i took the cap off and coolant burst out
no sign of oil in the coolant

    -i'm going crazy

-sections of hair missing on my head from me pulling it out.

where do we go from here? coil packs? it just all of a sudden crapped the bed, it makes little sense we'd lose all 4 coil packs instantly at once.

    anybody?
not much of a diag. tech, esp not with audis!

    TIA,
    Mike

coilpacks are a good bet, do you have the ability to scan codes? If its misfiring and you move the coilpack and the misfire moves with it, then there's the issue.

check your coil pack harness for cracking for damage in the wiring, also if you really want to find a vac leak the best way would be to run a smoke test on the motor. If your still stumped and would like us to take a look at it, please let me know...

Sounds like you got a leak still. Run a boost leak test, its very easy. How many miles on the car? Those check valves and vacuum lines get extremely brittle.
