    Default Launching = Wheel hop

Posted this on AZ also but wanted input from you guys as well...

Anyone else experience excessive wheel hop once the tires break loose during a launch? I was bouncing around like a chick in her first porn flick audition, it was ridiculous. In addition, my rear deck (holds the rear sub right above the rear seats) moves up and down as well and made a terrible noise each time.

It was wet out last night, I just swapped my summer wheels (OEM) on with my bald P PZeros and was planning to have a little fun. New Ventus tires are hopefully going on today in place of the PZeros. This was the reason I was playing with different launch styles and messing around...could not avoid crazy wheel hop for some reason.

Suspension related? I forget the causes of wheel hop. TIA.

Hmm, that is pretty interesting and not really considered the norm. Anything weird about the road conditions that might have caused that (I've had certain patches of road cause wheel hop where others didn't, but never like that). What mileage are you at, any chance control arms etc could be bad? Can you recreate it every time?

Yea. I don't get wheel hop at all in this car. I just commented on Saturday how solid and smooth she feels even when all 4 tires are spinning.

MBGT72: Not sure if it was road surface or not, it was in fairly good condition, no dips, pot holes etc. I only launched two or three times and it was on the same stretch of wet road - the surface could have been the culprit, not sure though. 55K on the odo, control arms and bushings have a little life left in them. I'll be overhauling most suspension parts in the near future so at least I'll have that aspect covered. I think it may have been the fact that I had bald tires and it was wet so the tires were "skipping" instead of spinning as funny as that sounds.

Duncan: I hear ya, I have launched a ton of times previuously and never had this issue. I think it might be the fact that it was wet or bald tires or suspension components at the end of their life cycle or a combination of all three.

I had my new tires mounted today and it is also dry & sunny. I'll test the wet/bald theory out later.

Problem gone, launched a handful of times last night with the new tires and on dry pavement, no hopping at all.
