Default Benjamin25's B8 S4 APR Pulley Install Done By Elite Motorsports

All of the parts came in today and we were able to squeeze in Ben for a late evening install. All in all everything is pretty straight forward, the instructions from APR are very clear. Here are some pictures during the process.

First step is to place the pulley inside a toaster and warm it up. When doing this, the only advice I have is do not rush and wait a while before trying to put the pulley back onto the supercharger. We had to do it twice because the first time it wasn't hot enough and it didn't fit flush like we wanted it so had to remove it and back in the toaster oven it went. Other than that, everything is smooth sailing from there. I believe Ben will re-dyno the car soon.

holy fuck look at the belt Audi uses on that thing. How many ribs is it?

It's so INCREDIBLE that the monkeys at VF and PES thought they could spin the shit out of the M90 to make power on the B6/7 S4/RS4...and then tried to do so using our tiny little stock 5 rib belt that jumps/snaps WITHOUT a blower attached. No wonder ngng is begging JHM to fix his belt jumping shitbox every 2 months (when he's not creating angry webpages).

Kai can you explain the heating up thing too? Is this to expand the hole to make it slide on, and then when it cools/shrinks it's ultra snug on there?

I think it has 7 - it is a beefy looking belt.

It's funny, when I helped JHM with their supercharger install on mbgt72's B7 S4 (and by help, I mean I told jokes and held a light while they worked) I was marvelling at the belt they were using. One of the guys explained the following

Ford used an M90 on a the Tbird SC in the 90s and used a 7 rib belt
GM used a 6rib belt for the M90 on their V6 at the same time.
Both belts were beefy, and designed for a supercharger drive.

VF and PES ran the stock 4.2 5 rib belt that is about half the width of what the OEM SC applications s used. They made no changes to the pulleys, and just hoped it would work. Not surprisingly just about every VF and PES kit owner suffered from jumping belts...only to have to go through a couple of belt revisions and pulley revisions. Clearly they didn't do their homework before selling the kit to the public. The JHM in house car got beat to shit with their SC kit for 1 year before it was put on a customer's car. There haven't been any belts jumping, not on the inhouse car, nor on the customer cars with the kit.

JHM uses a very solid 6 rib belt, and it's thick...and their pulley system is pretty awesome. I was thinking it would be a good mod to get (an updated belt/pulley setup) just to prevent the perpetual belt problems our platform has. My belt jumped on me once, and I never want to deal with that pain in the ass again. Fortunately I was 5 miles from the dealer and they fixed it on warranty. I'd hate to be 200 miles from home in the middle of nowhere when it happens.

Anyway, sorry about the threadjack. It's really more a comment on the great design from Audi. Not surprisingly, we haven't heard of any B8 S4 owners (or any 3.0T) complaining of jumping belts.
