EA Airstrip/1 mile/drag strip event

I would love if EA can organize a bad ass even like that. I threw in drag strip as a last resort but it would be great to have a MEMBERS ONLY airstrip/1 mile run that would bring huge amounts of attention to this site. We would need a way to keep things exclusive so we dont get a bunch of scavenger ricers from other sites coming along and wasting valuable time and space. Let me know what you guys think about this and if anyone has any ideas on where we can host such an event. Joey, contact me if your down and lets make something happen. Worst comes to worst, a nice day at Englishtown in the spring.

I like this idea, I had my first job working at an airport and my pops has his pilots license and a plane so I have a few connections at some airports in the NE. Joey and I talked about setting up M5board style events for EA members, would be a lot of fun.

the dragstrip rental would be cool. Doing a runway event would be fun for comparing guy to guy within the forum.

dragstrip rental (private) would be awesome though. Nice to get actual times. Doing a 1 mile event will lead to a bunch of safety concerns (taking your car up to 160mph might be dangerous for the E9X, B5 and B8 S4 guys who are all guaranteed to break )

So, we'll need some other supplies. Anyone got a line on getting any of this stuff cheap?

this will be to protect the rest of us from the B8 squeaking brakes


this will be to mop up the coolant when the B8 water pumps inevitably blow


this will scoop up all the parts that fly off the B5 guys' cars


and we'll need a bunch of bags of this to mop up fuel from the inevitably blown E9X fuel pumps

oh, I almost forgot...we'll need someone with their welder's license to weld the frames back together on the E46 M3s

we could also base it with three different classes and prizes for each specific class won. we'd ask the site sponsors to donate various gifts whether it be gift cards, or small prizes to larger prizes. There could be a stockish class for basic bolt on cars, a mild class and a wild class left to big turbo'd gutted nitroused monsters. a fee would be charged to cover various expenses and remaining proceeds could go to a charity of choice almost like the Rallies Joey has previously hosted

what's the point of the competition? That'll cause people to feel disinterested.

If it's a fun day, everyone will go.

If it's a 'compete against me so I can fucking crush you' only a few competitive people with very fast cars will go.

There's this thing about the dragstrip...people are scared to get embarassed. That's why almost nobody goes. They say 'I don't want to wreck my car' but that's bullshit...all you're doing is what you do pretty much everytime you get on an on-ramp...ripping through the gears till 100mph or so. No, most folks stay away from the strip because they don't want to go in their Audi or BMW and get walked by a troglodyte in a Chevelle...or worse a kid in a Civic. They also don't want to run a horrible time.

If you make it a private event, you can eliminate that fear/anxiety. If you make it a competitive thing, you'll bring it right back. We are going to have one up here next spring, and the overwhelming feedback I got when organizing it is that guys were just happy to go with a closed group so they could make a ton of passes and get a feel for it without the competitive nature of a bunch of strangers talking shit about you. let's face it there dragstrip crowd isn't exactly the same as the Audi/BMW/MERC/Porsche crowd

As for a runway event, that'd be neat too. we'd need to get a standardized system of camera people riding in each car so weight is always fair and the runs all get filmed FROM THE CAR(S).

if this is a serious post the classes will need to be broken down.

example:
stockish fwd/tuned fwd
stockish awd/tuned awd
stockish rwd/tuned rwd

i wouldny worry too much about front/mid/rear engine set-ups for the simple fact that you may only have 1 or 2 cars in each group.

just for instance i dont care if i come in dead last. i just want to see what the "little engine that could" with the plump driver can do against some of the elite cars sold today.

its not about ego's or any of that jazz. its about a good time!!
show what you have,run what you brung and bring the competition. if you have no track experience and you show up you can talk to members that have track time from drag,roadrace etc.

this would help EA in the long run getting new members from all of the other car forums.
