x post from vortex, but $125 for a track day is pretty effing awesome if you ask me. I'll likely be signing up and you should too!
Someone was asking about HPDE's and driving on track in the Motorsports forum. I figure this is more of a local thing and wanted to let everyone know about COM. COM is a great club to get out on track with.
The next event is at New Hampshire Motor Speedway May 30-31st. Registration is closed for this event. You can still sign up for a hot lap ride along.
Registration for NHMS July 1-3rd is open until June 17th. Holiday 3-day weekend event (Fri-Sun). Driving school Friday-Saturday, Time Trial competition and open track (time permitting) on Sunday. Licensed members may attend any combination of days, students must attend either or both school days and may also attend the Time Trial day with approval from their instructor.
Fees for this event: $225 single day, $425 any two days, $575 all three days. Participants earn 20 Frequent Driver Points per track day at this event.
Students will get four 20+ min. sessions on the track, one on one with an instructor, as well as classroom instruction on the first day of the event. Students that exhibit good car control, drive within their limits, and are safe to drive solo will get signed off to drive and compete on the second day. The second day is split with open practice in the morning (typically two 25-30min sessions) and a time trial (Time Attack, yo!) in the afternoon. There are no student groups or instruction scheduled on the second day. However, instructors are still available to those who need them.
The time trial is 3 timed hot laps without any traffic. COM is one of the only clubs that can offer anyone an open track all to themselves, even if it is just for 3 laps. You keep your best lap time.
Depending on attendance and how smoothly the time trials go, there could be 20 min to an hour of open track after the time trials. That's a total of 2-3+ hours of seat time over 2 days.
Consult the rule book for proper car classing. The closer your car is to stock the easier it will be for you to drive and learn the track. I cannot emphasize this enough! You don't need to modify your car to drive it on the track. Fresh brake fluid, good brake pads and safe tires is all you need. I had an absolute blast in my stock GTi at Mosport last year.
I forgot to mention, there is a $100 new member discount if you've never run with COM. That's $125 for your first track day. Very hard to beat that.
