Default Royal Flush Rallies: Mitchener Run- Charity Poker Run - November 9, 2008

    Mitchener Run
    Date: November 9, 2008
    Beneficiary: Mitchener Family
    Amount Raised: $2000+
    Number of Participants: 45+

The Mitchener Run was the second and last Poker Run setup by RFR in 2008. This rally was organized and dedicated to a close family friend, Curt Mitchener, who unfortunately passed away unexpectedly earlier that year. He was a loving husband and a terrific father of three wonderful kids. He was very active in the local community by volunteering for various little league coaching positions and other community work. He will be loved, missed, and forever remembered by everyone.

The overwhelming support from our participants turned this event into another success. Together we helped raised 2K for the Mitchener family who showed their sincere gratitude and appreciation for our efforts. The cooler November weather made it a day to remember as our cars roared down the roads during that sunny day. Some of the fantastic route included parts of the Taconic Parkway, Saw Mill Parkway, I-287 and the Palisades Parkway. The combination of highway and the roads of Bear Mountain quite possibly made it one of the best rally routes to date.

The rally ended started at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall and ended a little over 90 miles later at the Chili’s in Nanuet, NY. Here we were honored to have the Mitchener family join us for lunch and entertainment as the day came to an end. The wonderful feeling of seeing the reaction of the family when we presented them with the proceeds of the event made every minute of hard work more than worth it.

Thank you to all who participated and contributed in the Mitchener Run. Without your support and dedication our goals could not be achieved. It is each and every one of you who are responsible for making these charity events a true success! We hope you had a good time and look forward to seeing you at future events!

In Memory of Curt Mitchener (11/9/1960-1/17/2008)

Last January our community was suddenly devastated when friend, father, coach, and loving husband, Curt Mitchener, tragically passed away of a heart attack. Curt was a very friendly and generous individual. He always played an active role in the community whether it was coaching little league teams or lending a hand to someone in need. He was a fun filled person who could always bring a smile to your face. Curt will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. His kind heart and personality shines through his loving family.

Our rally aims to give back to Curt and his family in appreciation for what they have given to our community. Your charitable donation will go toward the further education of Curt's three children. Please help us sooth the loss of Curt by participating in something he would have loved.

    The Poker Run

There will be five predetermined destination points during the course of the rally. Each point consists of a short break where your team will receive a poker card along with directions to the next rally point. The best five card hand at the end of the event wins. Cash Prizes/Gifts will be given away to the top three hands of the day.

Co-Pilots are highly recommended! Turn by turn details, Mileage, and Toll Amounts for each stop will be listed on your direction sheets.

    Additional Details...

Each driver and passenger will be responsible for signing a waiver prior to participating in the rally. Driver waivers can be found on our website. Either email them back or print and bring them to the rally. Passenger waivers will be available at the event. If you do not wish to print out a waiver we will have them available the morning of the event. If we do not have a signed form you will not be able to participate.

Donations can be made in the form of cash or check. You are not required to make the donation until the morning of registration. If you would like to make your donation ahead of time locate the "Donate Now" icon on our site. Please provide all of your information with the donation. Checks can be made out to Lori Mitchener.
