Default Royal Flush Rallies: Accelerating for Autism- Charity Poker Run - May 31, 2009

    Accelerating for Autism
    Date: May 31, 2009
    Beneficiary: Golden Fund for Autism
    Amount Raised: $4000+
    Number of Participants: 105+

Our success in 2008 of raising over $5k for various charities geared us up to do even better in 2009. The Accelerating for Autism Poker Run was the first event of the year and probably the most successful event hosted by RFR to date. We were astonished with the overwhelming interest of enthusiasts that came out to support the cause. We had a whopping 105+ cars on the event; more than both of the prior year's poker runs combined. Our underestimation of enthusiasts led to some tight parking at a few of the rest points, but we still managed to cram everyone in!

Our beneficiary for this run was the Golden Fund for Autism, founded by Joelle Golden. The GFA, based out of New York, is a non-profit organization that raises funds for Autism research and awareness. As we all know Autism is a growing problem in the United States. Together our goal was to fight Autism as it is a disease that affects many of our loved ones. Joelle and the GFA were a fantastic organization to work with. We communicated almost every week and worked together to make this event a success. The GFA even made it out to the start of the run to tell us a little bit about the organization and to show their appreciation for our support.

The New Year also came with a new starting location for the RFR rallies. Costco Wholesale was kind enough to grant us permission to use their lot for our meeting point for our runs. The event took participants on a 100 mile adventure down the stretches of the NY Thruway and I-84 to the hairpin turns of High Point State Park. We even had the Support of the NY State Police and Local Police Departments as they shut down a stretch of road by the Woodbury Commons for the RFR rally to safely cruise through. A special thanks goes out to those guys for the help! Our rally ended at the famous 50-60's style drive-up restaurant "The Chatterbox" in Augusta, NJ. Here our participants wound down with some good old food and "mike shakes", lol. Together we raised an eye-opening amount of $4k+ for Joelle and the GFA that day. It was by far the best rally to date and it certainly set the bar high for future rallies to come.

Thank you to all who participated and contributed in the Accelerating for Autism Poker Run. Without your support and dedication our goals could not be achieved. It is each and every one of you who are responsible for making these charity events a true success! We hope you had a good time and look forward to seeing you at future events!

    Event Sponsors:

Our sponsors have put a lot of time and money into this event to make it successful. Please take the time to visit them below.

    The Golden Fund for Autism
Each Child Unique ~ Helping Them Flourish ~ Helping Them Thrive

The Golden Fund for Autism is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization dedicated to raising funds for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders and their families in order to assist them in obtaining various health, wellness and therapeutic treatments not otherwise covered by health insurance or by other financial means. Specifically, our organization provides funding directly to doctors/practitioners who are involved in administering various forms of treatments and therapies to children on the Autism Spectrum.
Our Fund was started by the mother of a 6 year old boy on the Autism Spectrum. After helping her son reach great strides, she has made it her mission to help other families who are struggling financially and who are unable to afford the very costly treatments for their children with Autism.

Since the inception of the Fund in 2007, we have been able to help over twelve families with children on the Autism spectrum and have donated over $60,000! We are hopeful that these numbers will continue to grow in the coming years and that we will be able to provide hope for many more families.

All funds raised by Royal Flush Rallies will go to The Golden Fund for Autism to help children with Autism.

    The Poker Run

The Poker Run is a car rally that involves an underlying poker theme. There will be five predetermined destination points during the course of the rally. Each point consists of a short break where your team will receive a poker card along with directions to the next rally point. The best five card hand at the end of the event wins. Cash Prizes/Gifts will be given away to the top three hands of the day.

Co-Pilots are highly recommended! Turn by turn details, Mileage, and Toll Amounts for each stop will be listed on your direction sheets.

    Additional Details...

Each driver and passenger will be responsible for signing a waiver prior to participating in the rally. Driver waivers can be found on our website. Print them out and bring them to the rally. Passenger waivers will be available at the event. If you do not wish to print out a waiver we will have them available the morning of the event. If we do not have a signed form you will not be able to participate.

Donations can be made in the form of cash or check. Checks can be made out to the "Golden Fund for Autism". All donations will be collected prior to the start of the rally.
