Default Royal Flush Rallies: Sprint for Soldiers- Charity Poker Run - August 16, 2009

    Sprint for Soldiers
    Date: August 16, 2009
    Beneficiary: EOD Warrior Foundation
    Amount Raised: $3000+
    Number of Participants: 60+

Even a rain date couldn't stop the success of RFR and its participants! Due to the poor weather conditions for the scheduled rally date we had to postpone the run for the next weekend. In all it worked out really well despite some original drivers unable to make the new date. Better weather and a group of enthusiasts, how can you go wrong? Our mission this time around was to benefit the soldiers that fight every day and give their lives so we can all enjoy the freedom of our country. We chose the Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation, a charitable organization who raises funds for service members who have been wounded in the line of duty. It was the least we can do for those that fight for our country.

The Sprint for Soldiers run started in the usual meeting place at the Costco Parking lot in Wharton, NJ. Drivers gathered from all over the tri-state to come and participate in this wonderful cause. Instead of taking an Eastern route as usual we decided to change things up and blast out to the west for this run. We all got to enjoy some of the wild straights on the PA highways such as 380 (one of which could be used as an international airport runway). I’m scared to ask what some of the drivers reached on this stretch as I was surprised how quickly I was moving when i looked down at my speedometer. We also hit some of Pennsylvania’s fine back roads that which mixed it up a bit to make this a very diverse drive into the west.

Another successful run ended 100 miles later at "Smokey Bones" restaurant in Wilkes-Bare, PA. This fun restaurant filled the stomachs of our guests with ribs, beer, and beer. What better way to end a fun filled day of driving? Together we raised $3k for our soldiers and the Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation. This rally drew the 2009 season to a close and a huge successful one to say the least. When it was all said and done we raised about $8k for charity during this year with one less rally then we had the year prior. Therefore, growing by 100% from the year before. This year only leaves us with more ideas and more room to grow in 2010. Thank you all for making it so successful.

Thank you to all who participated and contributed in the Sprint for Soldiers Poker Run. Without your support and dedication our goals could not be achieved. It is each and every one of you who are responsible for making these charity events a true success! We hope you had a good time and look forward to seeing you at future events!

Here is the original thread and information for the Sprint for Soldiers:

    Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation
Benefiting the Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force

The Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that provides assistance to our Wounded EOD Warriors and their families in the form of financial relief. The resources provided by the Foundation to the wounded and their families are above and beyond the budgetary constraints of the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs. We believe that families are an integral part of the healing and rehabilitation process and strive to keep them together during the most difficult of times.

It is inevitable that in some way or another you know someone that is serving or has served in one of the four branches of the military. Together we can give back to those who risk their lives to serve and protect our country.

All funds raised by Royal Flush Rallies will go to Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation to help our hero's.

    The Poker Run

The Poker Run is a car rally that involves an underlying poker theme. There will be five predetermined destination points during the course of the rally. Each point consists of a short break where your team will receive a poker card along with directions to the next rally point. The best five card hand at the end of the event wins. Prizes/Gifts will be given away to the top three hands of the day. Some previous gifts have consisted of detailing certificates, gas cards, and detailing baskets.

Co-Pilots are recommended for the rally. Turn by turn details, Mileage, and Toll Amounts for each stop will be listed on your direction sheets.

    Additional Details...

Each driver and passenger will be responsible for signing a waiver prior to participating in the rally. Driver and Passenger waivers can be found on our website. Fill them out, print them and bring them with you to the rally. If you are unable print out a waiver we will have several extra available the morning of the event. If we do not have a signed form you will not be able to participate.

Donations can be made in the form of cash or check. Checks can be made out to the "Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation". All donations will be collected during registration prior to the start of the rally.

Seriously i was too because the road just kept going and going i figured there had to be a cop somewhere on there. Luckily and surprisingly though there was not. It sucks i was in the back of the back so i really didn't get to cruise with a lot of the guys that came out for the event. It is always fun though driving with Neil at your side... hahaha

    Hello,
I participated in this and I got to tell you I had a blast. I noticed you guys moved over to this forum and it looks like there hasn't been a post since January. I was just wondering if you guys were going to start something up again?
